Lately, US-based PureCycle Technologies (hereinafter referred to as “PureCycle”) successfully produced the first batch of Ultra-Pure Recycled (UPR) resin made from post-industrial recycled materials. KraussMaffei provided multiple extruders for its facility, enabling it to achieve an annual production capacity of 48,000 tons of UPR resin. By utilizing KraussMaffei’s BluePower twin-screw extruder series, PureCycle processes dried post-industrial recycled materials through melting, followed by a subsequent extraction process to obtain a clean solution. This solution is then fed into KraussMaffei’s KE single-screw extruder for devolatilization, resulting in ultra-pure regenerated resin with performance and appearance comparable to virgin polypropylene (PP). The subsequent manufacturing processes such as injection molding or extrusion can be used to make various products for sectors including consumer goods, automotive, construction, and industrial applications. Compared to traditional virgin PP facilities, this production process reduces energy consumption by 79% and carbon emissions by 35%, yielding significant sustainability benefits. In the future, KraussMaffei will continue to focus on developing even more exceptional recycling process solutions to promote the development of the plastic recycling industry and contribute to energy-saving and carbon reduction efforts. |
