In order the meet the goal of sustainable development proposed at the United States Global Summit, REC Solar, an overseas subsidiary affiliated to Bluestar, has cooperated recently with GHE (Global Himalayan Expedition), a global public service organization aiming to improve the backwardness of remote areas, to bring clean energy to backward areas that are reliant on traditional polluting energies. So far, REC Solar has managed to install its solar panels in Ladakh and Zanskar regions in India, so as to help local residents living in remote areas that are not covered by the power grids to have access to the basic energies for electric lighting and increase their living standard.

REC Solar trained the villagers to complete initial installation of solar panels, guided them to learn how to use and maintain the equipment, set up village electricity management committees, and took charge of management of relevant matters about solar energy supply. Also, REC Solar set up service centers in the nearest city and staffed the centers with trained engineers to meet the requirements on equipment maintenance for nearby villages.

The joint efforts of REC and GHE for promoting clean energy directly benefit over 1,500 persons. The 12KW clean solar energy has replaced traditional polluting energy sources, and it is expected to eliminate 9,000 liters of kerosene per year and 22.8 tons of CO2 emissions. Now, the total population covered has basic energy access to lighting that is cleaner and brighter, and overall improvements have been achieved in the lighting conditions of households and schools.

The urgency of efforts to combat climate changes is underscored at the UN Global Climate Summit held in Poland’s Katowice at the end of the last year. At the Summit, Steve O’Neil, CEO at REC Solar said that REC is making active contributions to performing its social responsibilities and meeting the 17 UN goals for sustainable development.
